Dr Danaya’s remarks and support on FM 100 on May 26 is welcomed. His province has had its share of environmental damages which are yet to be fully assessed and audited to determine the extent of the destruction caused to his forest and river systems and to determine the level of chemical pollutants in the river systems. I suggest the centre for environment law and community rights, NGO environmental lawyers and other operating in PNG should step in and fund lawyer Tiffany Nonggorr and assist those affected to battle the case before the courts. I am sure it will cost a lot in the court battle.
Basamuk case is unique and will set a new benchmark for future court cases. That is why these NGO lawyers are asked to back Mrs Nonggorr, since they have the funds and do not have the drive. Thank you Mrs Nonggorr to assist the Basamuk landowners, it’s a David versus Goliath case but so far you seem to fare well, I hope it all ends in our favour.
Finally, thank you Post-Courier and keep up the great work of informing us the people. Voted leaders are accountable to us the people of Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare should not be whining like a little child because of the poor journalism in the country. It’s only through the media that we the people know of the elected members’ actions and performances.
Now we know what type of a leader and a government we the voters have instilled so much trust in, but things have changed.
We can go to the polls in 2012 and seek changes for our gain, not individually, theirs.
MP’s have 24 months to clean their yards and get their acts together.
